Numbers Please

I am entering a time at work where over the next 4 - 5 months I will be working on putting together a massive application to the federal government. It's a yearly thing, but this is only my second time doing it, so I'm still learning the ropes. I do know, however, that in the coming months my work life will consist of an obscene amount of Excel spreadsheets, charts, and graphs, and numbers galore!

This is not the kind of stuff I learned in graduate school. Social workers are supposed to be all about "how do you feel", or "how can I help you?". Me? I'm more like, "give me your budget numbers, the number of people you served last year, the number of people you have the capacity of serving, and your program's success/failures. And make sure all this information is accurate too!" Ahh...the many faces of social work.

In a sick, twisted sort of way, I kind of like this aspect of my job. It's about order, being objective, and following the rules. Anyone who's played cards with me knows I'm all about the rules (ie, "A card laid is a card played").

Amanda has also been known to slap my hand when I think it is my turn to draw cards in skip-bo...

Sorry Lisa...I probably just was caught up in the moment. You know how Skip-bo can be a highly competitive game!

It sounds as though everyone that has played cards with you knows how you feel about games. Lisa, we have experienced her rules as well. We still like playing with her though, it keeps everyone on their toes. Good job Amanda.

Despite Amanda's violent tendancies, she is a good sport who is fun to play games with. We just avoid games with such intense emotions such as Skip-bo...:-)
