More Thoughts on Calvinism...

A couple of weeks ago my family and I enjoyed a great conversation about the 5 points of Calvinism - our "campfire theology" talk. Crazy enough, that next week I received the September issue of Christianity Today magazine, and the cover story was all about how Calvinism is becoming increasingly popular among people my age. I quickly delved into this
article, and one thing that caught me off guard was the fact that there was a lot of discussion on how Calvinism is becoming more popular in the Southern Baptist Convention. I had been under the impression that to be a Baptist "disqualified" a person from holding to Reformed theology. Hmm...I need to understand this better.

Much of this article also focused on John Piper and the great stuff he teaches (at a Baptist church). I have not read much of what Piper has written (but do plan on reading his Desiring God), but I have been able to listen to his sermons several times. In the words of Kip Dynamite, "I love technology" because this website has over 400 of Piper's sermons available for download to my mp3 player. Sweet! This afternoon I enjoyed a message by Piper from Romans 11:33-36. Great stuff.

So anyway, I've been thinking that I would like to understand even more what Calvinsim is all about. I discovered that Piper - through the Desiring God Ministries - also has available a series of teachings on TULIP - I just may have to purchase it.

Once you really grasp Reformed Theology (Calvinism) you will have an ever growing love for God, we will definitely have to talk some more. There are many, many Baptist brothers/sisters who embrace Calvinism--it's not about baptism, it's about salvation and God's grace. Your interest is really exciting.
