Last night I was hanging out with some young people from my church. One of the young women there, Raquel, told me she had recently met John Bayon. John is a staffer with IV who I got to know during the Detroit Urban Project six years ago. He is also a staff person for the Christian Medical and Dental Student Association (or something like that) and is leading a missions trip to Honduras later this summer, which Raquel is going on - hence her introduction to him. When John found out Raquel goes to the same church as me, he did the usual "tell her I say hi" thing. So that's cool, but then Raquel goes on and tells me John said her (something like this), "yeah, we're praying for a boyfriend for Amanda".
Now I'm thinking - I haven't seen John in probably two years, why is he (or this unknown "we") praying for a boyfriend for me? How does he even know I'm single? Then the light dawns...
Karen! Karen is in the same small group as John! While I am humbled that you think of me and talk about me, it's a little funny to me that you're all praying for a boyfriend for me. It makes me laugh.
I can't wait to see what people's reaction to this post is going to be.

What good friends you have.
Personally, I pray that you will be single your entire life so that if Paul dies before I do when we are old women I won't have to wait around for your husband to die so that we can be roommates once again...but thats just me.
I just realized that some people may not know how totally kidding I am about the above comment (sort of) and want you all to know that I adore Amanda and wish nothing but a handsome, rich, powerful Christian Man who will give her beautiful children and a new car every year of her life until death do they part. Actually, all joking aside, I don’t pray for a boyfriend for you Amanda, I pray for your future husband and I pray for you as a future wife to your husband but it has never actually occurred to me to pray that you get a boyfriend…
I pray that you find a man worthy of your unconditional, passionate love. That he will appriciate all of you, that he will make you laugh and have a heart for the city like you do. Of course it would be nice if he could mesh into our "click" too but I know God has someone amazing set aside for you. You just have to meet him!
I agree with Lisa I don't pray for a boyfriend but for your future husband.
I pray that you will be showered with abundant gifts of new pots and pans, kitchen gadgets and high thread-count deluxe sheets. That's what you really want, right?
I like Stephanie's prayer request the best. :-)
(Just kidding!)
I keep coming back to this blog and starting a comment and then giving up and leaving because what I wanted to say wasn't funny and I hate being a downer. Dan hit the mark for me though...although let me also say that you do not need a boyfriend or a husband to be a fulfilled, productive woman of God (which all your friends who love you obviously know). I know that's easy to say sitting over here in married land, but it really is true. The relationship you have with Christ is the most intimate, important one that exists, and trust me, not even a great husband you love can top that.
Everyone wants you to have a good man, Amanda, because everyone loves you. It's just the truth.
Married people often have trouble leaving single people alone, too.
I admit that I hope God sends you a fantastic, Godly man, in His time. But I don't pray about it, honestly. I would if you asked!
