Who Doesn't Love a Good Cry?

On Saturday evening I was chatting with my roommate about how much I enjoyed the movie “War Horse”, which I had seen earlier that day. I admitted how I had cried – twice – during the movie. That got us reminiscing about other movies we’ve been known to cry at.

Maybe this is just a “girl thing”, but I know there are certain things – books, movies, songs – that are sure to elicit a tear or two, no matter how many times I see/hear/read them. Even when I know what is going to happen in the story, whether it’s good or sad, there are sometimes I just can’t help but cry. In fact, I think I secretly look forward to it, because when this happens it always feels so satisfying, like some great emotional release.

Some things that get me every time?
  • Song: “When the Saints” by Sara Groves
  • Books: “Rilla of Ingleside” by L.M. Montgomery; pretty much the entire “Zion Covenant” series by Thoene
  • Movie: “Little Women” (not so much when Beth dies, but more the Amy-almost-drowns-“I-could-never-love-anyone-as-much-as-I-love-my-sisters” scene)

What about you? What gives you that tingly, prickly feeling in your eyes every time?

Jen - Basically anything. : )

Joe - despite my Bride's perpetual insistance of my being "emotionally backed-up", I cried through some of our children's health struggles, and more recently, through scenes of the movie, "Courageous".

Tears - "They blotch the face, but they scour the heart". The Message
