Last week I had a classic "embarrassing moment". First, the backstory:
The executive director of an organization that my organization works with (and that many other people in the social-service field here in Detroit are familiar with) passed away recently after a tragic accident, in which he was shot.
So, last week Monday I'm sitting in a meeting with the board of directors of the organization I work for. We're at the end of the meeting, and I wanted to be sure that everyone knew about this man's passing, as they would eventually find out about it sooner or later. After I told the group what had happened, everyone was naturally very shocked and surprised. The following exchange then took place:
Board member: "Where did he get shot?"
Me (rather reluctantly): "In the head." (this is what I had been told)
Board member (looking rather taken aback): "No, I mean, where did it happen?"
Me (trying not to laugh, which would have been totally inappropriate, but it was my first reaction because I realized I misinterpreted what she had asked): "Oh...it happened in Detroit."
How embarrassing...

Oh my goodness, thank you for that laugh...I am cracking up (very inappropriately, obviously).
I am currently supressing wild laughter in my cubical at work....I love this...LOVE IT!
Not the fact that a man was shot, but the situation!
