My New Bike

I've been wanting to buy a bike for some time now, but kept putting it off - until now that is. As an early birthday present to myself, and because I realized the need for a new hobby, I purchased this bike:

I'm no bike techie...I just know I really like this bike and I got a crazy good deal on it. It's a Diamondback Serene Citi. It's super comfortable. And because I don't have a bike rack for my car, I like that fact that the quick-release front wheel comes off and goes on easily - although it did take me a little bit to figure that out. I was paging through the instruction manual for the bike, and had to laugh at all the warnings about "risk of serious injury or death". Goodness - you'd think riding a bike is as dangerous a hobby as knife-throwing or something.

Anyway, I took it for a spin around Belle Isle today. The weather was awesome, and I had a great time. Some of my experiences on the island:
  • Seeing three different wedding parties getting pictures taken by the fountain. Guess it's that time of year.
  • Stoping to watch a wedding at the fountain. I felt rather vouyeristic at first, standing on the sidewalk watching a wedding of people I didn't know. Then I realized that there were other bystanders, and that that's the price the bride and groom pay for having an outdoor ceremony in a public park. I just stayed long enough to see the bride's dress. It had red accents on it (the bridesmaids dresses were red) which I thought was kind of different.
  • Three Buddhist monks in their saffron yellow robes.
  • Being offered (twice) the opportunity to purchase pirated copies of the movie "Fast & Furious".
  • Lots of geese and goslings.
  • Several family picnics.
  • Seeing a cricket game.
Gotta love the D...
