Maine...The Way Life Should Be

I've recently returned from a well-deserved vacation in Maine. They don't have "Vacationland" written on Maine license plates for nothing. It was a great time - here's a quick synopsis of my trip:
  • I went kayaking for the first time (twice) on Casco Bay. It was so fun! I don't know that I'm a big boat person, or really that into water sports, but this was great. On my first trip out I saw a bald eagle and a seal! And, even better, I didn't tip over!
  • I had lobster for the first time. I don't understand the fascination with this creature. They're related to cockroaches (some folks in Maine even call them "bugs") and they don't taste very good. Actually, the taste didn't really throw me off so much as the texture of the meat. The melted butter was good though!
  • As is becoming a tradition, my sister and I went shopping in Freeport at the Gap and Banana Republic outlets stores. I think these are the Gap and B.R. stores I frequent the most...and they're in another state. Funny.
  • I got plenty of time with my nephew and niece, and realize that all moms out there deserve big gold stars for having the responsibility of looking after active little kids! Seriously, Isaac (who's 2) never stops! The one exception may have been when Matt took him on our second kayaking trip. I couldn't believe a 2-year old would sit still for over an hour in a kayak!
  • Two-year-olds are full of questions...often the same question over and over again. I love it when my sister would tell Isaac "ask a different question please".
  • I borrowed book #6 of Harry Potter from Andrea, intended to borrow #7 when I returned to Michigan. However, I finished #6 on Thursday, and knew I still had the whole trip home and I really wanted to continue reading. So I went to a Borders and purchased #7, justifying by telling myself that it was 30% off, and I want all the books anyway. I'm now about two-thirds of the way through book #7. It's great! I also noticed that of all the people I saw reading in the airport or on the plane, the majority of them were reading "Deathly Hallows".
  • I also now have a "new" digital camera. You're never too old for hand-me-downs from your sister! As soon as I get it all figured out, I'll post pics from the trip.

Maine sounds wonderful! I would love to go. My girls are obsessed with the book One Morning in Maine by McCloskey. Maya keeps asking when we're going to visit/move to Maine. =)
