The Curse of Women's Pants

I dislike shopping for pants. Why do clothing companies make it so difficult to find pants that fit correctly in all the right places? My challenge is finding pants that are long enough and that don't show off my butt-crack when I sit down. Is that too much to ask for? And what's up with sizing women's pants? I can wear an 8 in one brand, but need a 10 in another. I even have a pair of size 6 Old Navy shorts that fit me for reasons that defy all logic. Men's sizes make so much more sense - you measure inseam and waist, and buy pants in those measurements - there's a standard. A certain number of inches is the same no matter what store you go to. (I say this as though I've had experience buying men's pants, which, admittedly, I haven't. So married ladies - feel free to correct me if I'm over simplifying things.)

Today I was shopping for a new pair of jeans. I found a pair of Levi's in the same style and size as a pair I had purchased a couple of years ago and really like. Something must have changed over the last couple of years, because this new pair had the dreaded "butt-crack" problem. I like this style because it comes in "long" and fits well otherwise. Why did they have to go and change them? Grrrr!

Well despite the fact that I happen to enjoy the butt crack trend, I feel your pain. If pants fit my hips, they gap at my waist, if they're the right size up top, it looks like I'm waiting for a flood...and I'm not even that tall! I love the cropped fashions for this reason :o)
As far as men's pants, it is actually that simple. I know what size to buy Andy no matter what store I'm in and it works. The really funny thing is that Lucky brand jeans come in "inches" like mens pants but for women and STILL there's a difference between different styles so apparently "30 inches" can mean many things to the Lucky brand people.
Sadly, I have to admit that my FAVORITE jeans were bought at Banana Republic. They were pricey, but I'm a strong believer in getting what you pay for and at BR, you do. These jeans will be with me as long as they fit, unlike others that have fallen apart on me. I also am always happy with the fit of dress pants from Ann Taylor and Ann Taylor Loft (less expensive) and they have good sales.
The pain of finding pants that fit is the curse of every woman no matter height, size, build, etc. Good luck!

Followed the link from the "tears" blog - I am delighted that Amy is moving to help with my area of the US as well as helping with Andy - oh wait, that's the same thing, isn't it?

My problems are more like your friend Kate's - and I've been anywhere from a 5 to a 20. Raising the boys involved slims and husky's but otherwise was ever-so-much easier than for the girls.

I KNOW! I have decided that long tunics are a God send because they don't solve the butt crack problem - but they cover it up - so you still feel uncomfortable with how low your jeans ride when sitting, but at least no one else has to be made uncomfortable by what they see....

I hear you on buying pants! I am in between wearing regular length and long length in some stores - NY & CO's longs drag over my feet but Express does not (but cost twice as much). I spent an hour & half or so at those 2 stores and a few others, was not satisfied, and ended up finding a pair on a whim on the way out of JCPenney. Perfect fit and long enough. It was the Nicole Miller brand, a lot of it is cute and sort of career-trendy, if you want to check it out. Pants are the one thing I will pay a little more for because there is nothing more annoying than illfitting pants. (Besides having mono) ;)
