Barrels

I live on a corner, and a couple of weeks ago there was some road work done on the street that runs right along my house. I didn't pay too close attention to what was going on, until the next day when I noticed this in my front lawn:

Apparently the folks working on the street decided that they didn't really need to take their orange barrels with them, and that my lawn would be a good place to keep them. I didn't do anything for about a week, assuming that someone would come back and get them. After some time passing, and them still being there, I started making some phone calls. First to the City, then the State, then the County, and finally the City again. Surprisingly enough, the woman I spoke to at the City today took down my address and said she would put in the work order to have them picked up. We'll see what happens.

In my efforts to figure out which correct government entity/department was responsible for these barrels, I noticed the barrels said "State Barricade" on them, which made me think they belong to the State of Michigan. That's logical, right? When I explained this to the very friendly person at the State's Department of Transportation, however, she informed me that "State Barricade" is the name of the company that makes the barrels, not that they are the State's barrels. I just had to laugh at myself for that!

In the meantime, the neighbor kids have been having fun playing on the barrels, so I guess it's not all bad.
