I feel a little guilty making all this yummy Daniel-Fast "friendly" food today. Isn't a fast supposed to be about giving up good stuff like this? Here's what I'm making today, for snacks and whatnot throughout the week to come:
Guacamole
Cinnamon-Roasted Almonds (I think I'll mix these with some dried fruit to keep at work)
I also have chick peas soaking for cooking tomorrow, so they'll be on hand for making hummus later on.
Dinner this week is going to be whole-wheat pasta and these "meatballs" with tomato sauce. The picture makes them look like little green turds...so I hope they taste better than they look!
One of the downsides I'm discovering about this fast is that it isn't as cheap as I thought it would be. Some things (like quinoa - a big protein staple) are more expensive than expected. Sometimes it seems like the healthier or more natural the food is - like coconut, dried fruit, or peanut butter with no added sugar - the more expensive it is. This is probably because the stuff with the sugar added to it is more in demand, and therefore can be sold for a lower price. Conversely, the stuff that is in less demand has to be sold at a higher price.
At least some things - rice, dried beans, everyday veggies and fruits - are still pretty cheap!
