2010 Bookshelf: Grace (Eventually): Thoughts on Faith

This book is by Anne Lamott. I'd heard a lot about her, but never read any of her stuff, so when I saw this book for $1 on a used book rack at the library I picked it up. About a quarter of the way through I realized I had already read too much that I didn't like that it wasn't worth my time continuing.

What really sealed the deal for me was this passage:
My [the author's] Jesuit friend Tom once told me that...everyone [emphasis in the original] is loved and chosen, even Dick Cheney, even Saddam Hussien. That God loves them, because God loves...Tom explained, 'when people die, they are forgiven and welcomed home. Then God will help them figure out how to clean up the disgusting mess they have made. God has the skills and ideas on how to do this.'
Umm...really? The author made no rebuttal to how messed-up her friend Tom's view of God is. If this is her opinion on grace, I don't really want to read any more.

Not to mention she was very antagonistic & hostile about all things Bush.

I'm posting this book on paperbackswap.com, as I don't really want to waste my time reading it and just thinking "huh?"
