Again...

Having lived in Detroit for almost three years, I've come to learn there are things that happen in this city that, while disheartening, do not come as a surprise. For example, city council members bicker and fight amongst each other, the Lions lose, and cars get broken into. It is this last item that I have recently experienced. Again.

Sometime during the night Monday night someone broke into my car while it was parked in the street in front of my house. I discovered this Tuesday morning when I went out to get into my car to go to work. My car had to be towed to the repair shop because not only had they ruined the door lock, but they also tore apart the ignition. According to the tow-truck man, the person who did this "tore the s*** out the lock". Evidently this man does not come from the same school of etiquette as the Gentleman Construction Worker (see earlier post).

Luckily, the punks did not steal the car's stereo/CD player. They either were too stupid to think to do that, or their conscience suddenly kicked in and they left the scene.

So the good news is State Farm is coming through and I am becoming convinced that all the cash I send them each month is not all for naught. The bad news is it looks like the body shop "hopes" to have my car done by Tuesday of next week, making it at least a week that I will have been without it. At this point, I must give a shout-out to Amy, and thank her for letting me use her car this week while she plays mommy to her nephew and nieces with her sister's mini-van.

This is the third time since moving to Detroit that my car has been vandalized, twice while it was parked in front of my house. I know it could be a lot worse, and I'm thankful it wasn't worse. It's just a hassle to have to deal with all this.

Don't forget when your car was taken from the Westchester (aka ghettochester)...poor Amanda. I'm so glad you are safe though, and that your insurance company is taking care of you.

Your insurance company has probably contacted the FBI by now...they proably think that you have some complex scam going on.
