A Week in the Life

I will occasionally read blogs of women who do a "day in the life" or "week in the life" of their families. Because those types of posts are heavily populated by pictures of kids and stories of their silly antics, I've sometimes thought that I could never do a blog post like that. I mean, I don't have any kids of my own to write about, so what would I be posting pictures of or talking about? And then I thought "why not"? So what if I don't have kids or have fun stories to write about. Just because I "only" go to an office every day to sit in front of a computer screen and then try to fill my evenings with somewhat meaningful activity, doesn't mean I can't write about it, right?

So...for both of my fans out there, and for anyone else who has ever wondered what a typical week in my life looks like, here's a little photo journey. I'm staring this on a Tuesday, because that's when I thought to do it.

Tuesday

I spent some time trying to find a recipe for homemade tator tots. I love tots. I love the taste of store-bought tots. I don't love all the added junk in store-bought tots, and figured there must be a way to make my own. Thanks to Google, I came upon a billion recipes for homemade tator tots.

Post tator tot search, I got down to finishing my professional development workplan for 2013. It's due to my boss on Friday. I had started working on it about a week and a half ago, and if I'm going to get it in on time, need to finish it tonight.

Wednesday

I helped to facilitate a national conference call with people who do the kind of work I do, only in other parts of the country. We do these calls every-other month, and it's always a good time to commiserate together with all that the federal government puts us through share what each community is doing and learn from each other.

Wednesday night was Bible study at Caribou Coffee, of which I forgot to take a picture. We looked at John 11, where Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead, and were reminded that Jesus paid the ultimate price for us, so that we will never die and to give us hope in the midst of suffering.  On another front, here's a fun fact: Have you ever noticed how the legs and body of the caribou in the logo are made up of two spoons? I must have seen this logo dozens of times before I caught on to that.

Thursday

For all of those who have ever wondered what my office space looks like, here is it. This is where I am currently spending the majority of the hours of my life. The past two weeks at work have been super fun, as we try to come up with a strategy for cutting millions of dollars of homeless programming in the coming year. Thanks, sequestration!

Friday

Friday night after work I headed to the west of the state, stopping for some Wendy's on the way. Not the healthiest of dinners, but I do love their chicken nuggets!

Saturday

Saturday we celebrated Isaac's 8th birthday with a trip to the Grand Rapids Children's Museum. Here are all the kids in a giant bubble-making thing.

Sunday

Celebrating Palm Sunday with my parents at good ol' ORC.

At some point over the weekend, the dresses my mom's bridesmaids wore in her wedding came up. My mom has one of those dresses at her house, which I promptly had to try on. As I was putting it on, I felt like I was getting dressed up for a rendition of "Little House on the Prairie". Cotton dress? Check. Pink & purple flower pattern? Check. Ruffles? Check. Faux-bow in the back? Check. Mom and I both got a good chuckle out of this.

So that's a peek into what this past week looked like for me. Now it's Sunday night, and I'm going to take it easy for the rest of the night, as the week ahead promises to be another full one.
