I am not a runner. I have never enjoyed running. It' pretty much the one sport/health activity that I always avoided. And yet, here I am signed up to to the 5/3 Riverbank Run in May. Granted, I'm only doing the 5K, which for real runners is what they do on days that they feel especially lazy.
I have a training schedule, which I start in March. I think this training schedule will be good - it starts off really easy, and gradually works up to longer distances of running. And when I say "longer distances", I mean like "Walk for 4 minutes, run for 1 mile, walk for 4 minutes, run for 1 mile". Yeah, I'm pretty freaked out about having to run for a mile, but in a strange sort of way, kind of looking forward to it. I've never done anything like this before, and I think the challenge will be good for me.
And as if that isn't enough, my roommate and I are also going to be doing the "Daniel Fast" during Lent. I'll write more about this later, but basically it's a fast that cuts out meat, dairy, and sweets.
The good thing is, I'm not doing either of these alone. Sarah and I will both be holding each other accountable for both our training for the run (she's doing the 10K) and the fast. I like to say she's peer pressuring me into getting healthy. Seriously, I would much rather camp out on the couch with a book and a bowl of ice cream. Or a brownie. Or better yet, both.
I have 21 more days to get those sweets in.
I'm pretty sure the 3 boxes of Thin Mints I ordered from a coworker will show up on day 22.

Go get 'em, Amanda!
That's great. Feel free to stop by our house, as we live just a few minutes from the Start Line.
