A recent purchase of a new computer is compelling me to do some "digital housekeeping" as I transfer files from my old computer to my new one. Tonight I came across papers I wrote while at Western (stored on 3.5 inch floppies...does anyone even use those anymore?!)
I was reading through some of the stuff I had to write for classes back then, and was struck by a couple of thoughts:
1) Some of the things I had to write now seem silly - like a letter to a fake company trying to get them to buy a new copy machine, or a memo to employees instructing them how to record travel expenses. I guess doing this has helped me in the "real world" - it just seems strange that this was actually taught in a class.
2) I was also struck by how bold I was in some of my papers, in terms of my faith and what I believe. I know I was not so out-spoken in class...I guess doing things in writing is a more passive way of expressing your views, when you know the pushback will likely only be from the prof, not all your classmates too.
As I reflect on this second point here, I know that it was only by God's working in my life that I dared to speak out for His truth at Western. And I know too, that it was through the influence of IV and the friends I had that also encouraged me to do this.
Those were the days...
